Looking for some down time in New York

After a month of travel, I was looking forward to a little "down time" back home. But, since Colin and I are "Millers on the Road," hanging out and relaxing was not in my future. During the last 3 weeks, I have been to Albany, Rhode Island, and Boston back to back to back weekends!

While we were on vacation, we kept the car in Rhode Island with my parents. Our first weekend back, we decided to head up to Albany to celebrate "Christmas" with the Miller clan. Since we didn't have the car, we were able to get $40 roundtrip bus tickets on Megabus. It was my second time riding the bus and I must admit both times have been enjoyable. The bus is a double decker with reclining seats, free Wi-fi, and electrical outlets for every pair of seats.

Our nephew, Brian, had soccer practice Saturday morning, bringing me back to my days of coaching 4-5 year olds in Tennessee. Just as I was hoping to see some "shark and minnows," the game commenced on the field!

Later in the day, we did our holiday gift exchange at my sister-in-law (Karen)'s house and gave out the souvenirs we bought for the family on our trip.

The second weekend back, we had an unexpected death in the family and so we once again took Megabus to Boston and then got a ride home to Rhode Island. My uncle, my father's brother and the only one of my parent's siblings who lives in the United States, had a massive heart attack at the age of 61. Heart disease is a killer on my dad's side of the family, which is why I give my dad a hard time about his diet all the time!

This past weekend, the third since I have been back, my travels again brought me to Boston. This time, the reason was a much more exciting event. My good friend from UVM, Erin, had her bachelorette party! Although we did have the car back, I didn't feel like driving by myself and dealing with parking in Boston - and the bus is only $35 round trip - which I would have spent on gas. Since I had been riding Megabus the previous weekends, I decided to try the competitive bus company - Bolt Bus. Bolt was not a double decker and thus appeared much more crowded. I had to sit in the very last row, right next to the toilet, to and from Boston! Thankfully, both rides were in the morning and the bathroom did not yet stink. Bolt had leather reclining seats, also had free wi-fi, had storage inside the bus, and had 2 outlets (one for each seat). In the future, I think I will take Megabus because it is usually a little cheaper and I like the double decker!

In Boston, I had a great time celebrating Erin's upcoming wedding with her friends and our mutual friend and my former college roommate, Kayla. We started with pizza and drinks in the hotel room, followed by a drag show, and finished with a fun night of dancing!

We missed our friend Karri, who was supposed to come down from Vermont. It would have been a repeat of our spring break trip in Cancun from Sophomore year! Sunday was sad to say goodbye to Kayla, who had a flight to catch back to her husband and 1 year old in Charlotte. Even though Erin is only in Boston, we rarely get to see each other. Unfortunately, most of our trips are to visit family in Albany and Rhode Island. Now that I'm blogging, maybe "Millers on the road" can head to more domestic destinations to visit some of our friends as well!!

My weekend was not over when I got back to NYC Sunday afternoon as it was "Superbowl Sunday." Mind you I slept about 4-5 hours Saturday night, I then had 30 minutes to drop off my stuff at home and freshen up before heading to Long Island for a party. I felt terrible that I was so tired at our friend's Keith and Elicia's new house/superbowl party. We only get together with our NYC friends a few times a year and we all live within 20 miles of each other! This was a photo I love taken last February at Butch & Christine's wedding as the groomsmen were "getting ready" for the big day with some lunch!

So for the past three weeks, I have kept the theme of this blog going so much that I haven't had time to write in it! I finally had a chance today because of the massive SNOW STORM we are having. Schools were closed, so United Way also gave employees the day off.

I am looking forward to a nice, quiet weekend at home this weekend with Colin. I got the cleaning done today with my day off, so now I can enjoy having my friend Christina and her 6 month old daughter Layla over on Saturday and Colin and I can enjoy Valentine's Day on Sunday.
